The Blob-Fish (Rare)

The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) was voted as the ugliest animal in the world last September and was subsequently adopted as the mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society. These fish live in deep waters near Australia, where the pressure is much higher than at the surface (which is why they look deflated when out of the water). Though they don’t have much muscle and aren’t really eaten by humans, overfishing is the number one reason why these fish have declined and are being pushed to extinction. Because they live so deep, they are often snagged in the nets of bottom trawlers intended to catch lobsters and crabs.
